We just finished up working on a large scale website redesign project with the Food and Drug Law Institute (FDLI). This project involved going through over 1000 pages on their old site and creating a new intuitive way of finding the information.

We started by creating a list of the main publications that are on their site: books, journals, conference material, magazines, press releases and articles/white papers. We then made sure there was a checklist that mapped out where each of these new pieces of content where go on the site and which audience it fell into (food, drugs, tobacco, cosmetics etc…). The end results is a great looking website with easy to find information…all with the goal of boosting membership and publication sales.

We recently had the pleasure of working with the staff at Adhesives.org to work on a big website redesign with them. The organization approached us with a few initial challenges:

1. The website is static and is structured like an encyclopedia

2. The website does not engage users and there is no reason for them to come back

Together we came up with a few great ideas. First, we organized all of the content on the old website (over 500 pages) to be matched up with their audience members (market segment information).

Second we integrated the site with LinkedIn, which encourages users to have more discussions on the website. Check it out here: http://www.adhesives.org/linkedin-discussions

Third we created something called ASCTV, which is a resource center of youtube videos encompassing the spectrum of adhesives/sealants. In my opinion this is the coolest part of the website!

Before

Q: What is imis Software?

Answer: imis is to membership groups as WordPress is to bloggers. imis software is designed to help associations and nonprofit organizations manage relationships amongst its members and facilitate administrative tasks such as donations, event registration and website updates all through one interfaces tied to a single membership database.

Q: What is an Example of imis Software at Work?

Answer: Here is one example of imis web devlopment at its best. Let’s say your Nonprofit is soliciting donations with an annual newsletter. This process has become costly between postage, recording donation amounts, and transferring funds into your account. Additionally, going the extra step to thank donors isn’t an option because of the current administrative workload. imis software design reduces costs in a number of ways. For starters, imis allows your organization to send an e-newsletter by instantly pulling all e-mail addresses from your imis membership database. As donors respond their donation amount is recorded in the database and funds are securely transferred to your bank. Because the database recorded the donation amounts, as well as who donated, a thank you e-mail can be sent without much additional work.

Q: What are Primary Features of imis Software?

Answer: imis offers a lot of options, and all of these features seamlessly integrate with a single membership database. At its core imis is most helpful with the following projects:

Managing Events & Education Seminars Within Associations & Nonprofits.

Creating a Content Management System for Websites that Integrates with a Membership Database.

Collecting Donations & Measuring Marketing Campaigns to Members.

Q: How Should Our Association or Nonprofit Evaluate Using imis?

Answer: imis offers a lot of options for any membership organization, association or nonprofit. NonprofitCMS will begin by working with you to help discover the core business processes that imis can improve upon. From that point we analyze the modules offered by imis and build a system that meets your needs. Typically most organizations use imis to act as their primary membership database, and then integrate imis with the current website. A good imis web developer will understand how to integrate imis web design and functionality into your current website.

Q: What is Nonprofit CMS’s Experience with imis Software Development?

Answer: We are proud to have worked with many aspects of imis and deliver nonprofit imis web development in a timely fashion on behalf of clients. Here are two example of imis web development. PAICR is an organization devoted to helping educate financial services professionals on business development and marketing. PAICR utilized imis to help manage their seminar registration process, and sync imis with WordPress the website’s CMS. American Society of Military Comptrollers also desired to sync the imis membership database with WordPress to help manage donations, inquires from members, and event registration.

We just finished a pretty cool website design for Habitat for Humanity Silicon Valley. On this project we worked closely with the communications/marketing manager at Habitat. We decided that the WordPress Content Management System is the best bet for the development of this site due to it’s ease of use to the end user.

During the initial stages of the web development we looked at the various stakeholders that might be visiting the website. We found a few:

Potential Donors

Potential Volunteers

Media

If you look at the website, http://www.habitatsiliconvalley.org/ , you’ll see these main audience members are given clear “call to actions” on the homepage. There is no confusion about what habitat would like a user to do when they arrive on the homepage.

Below is a “before” picture for the homepage.

Below is an “after” picture of the new homepage. Pretty cool, right??

1. Website Design using Drupal: As a group of mountain bikers, MORE needed the ability to quickly find trails in their area. NonprofitCMS developed a drupal “trail finder” where users can put in their desired location and find their nearest trail and even update the trail’s condition. Below is a “before” picture of MORE’s website.

Below is the “after”

2. Membership Management: CiviCRM was a no-brainer for MORE because of it’s ability to smoothly integrate with Drupal. MORE used to be on aMember and the migration over to Civi was a pretty smooth process that opens the door to literally thousands of new features.

3. Mobile Website: NonprofitCMS developed a mobile version of MORE’s website that is compatible with all of the modern smart phones (iPhone, android and blackberry).

Phew…what a challenging yet exciting project to work on! The Association for the Treatment of Sexual Abusers (ATSA) approached nonprofitCMS back in January about their desire to revamp their online systems. As a membership based association they needed to address the following requirements: Membership Management, Conference Management, and a Web Redesign. The following was our process for tackling each of their needs:

1. Membership Management: NonprofitCMS used CiviCRM as the base system to manage the day to day needs of ATSA. The challenge of this part of the project was migrating their ~5000 members and tens of thousands of general contacts from their old system to CiviCRM. CiviCRM now manages membership signup, renewals, donations and internal reporting.

2. Annual Conference Registration and (Continuing Education) CE System: ATSA puts on an annual conference and had an old system to manage the registrations. They needed a more robust system to manage the end to end requirements of their conference included bar code scanning of attendees and a CE system at the end of the conference (with printable certificates). NonprofitCMS developed this system from scratch and plans to continue developing this great product for future years.

3. Website Redesign and CMS Integration (Drupal): This was the most straight forward and fun part of this project. Drupal was chosen as the main CMS because of its ability to integrate smoothly with CiviCRM. ATSA can now easily manage the content, pictures and library on their new site. Below is the old ATSA website.

Below is the design and new information architecture that we put together.
